Does Super Space Rubbish get updates? Would for example be awesome to have the Arcade mode in the full version and to have some more levels. The game is a little short.
Sorry there are no plans to update or extend the game at the moment.
how do i get more lives in super space rubbish plz tell me i need lives now
i have only i live left now i do not what to start over plz
There are no cheat codes for Space Rubbish, the only way to gain lives is by defeating bosses (major competitors). If you’re not happy with your save state at any stage of the game I’d recommend starting again, your skills will have improved and you’ll be in a much better position by the time you get back to where you were.
This is the first time I see a game being bundled with a soundtrack, in stead of the other way around
. Have some money.
What is your suggested strategy for surviving the blue rocket dudes, that can take multiple hits, have perfect aim, have bullets that go through shields and shoot autotargeting missiles?
Three of em in a row, when the screen says: “Stop showing off”. I would like to skip that bit…
I know it’s hard, sorry ’bout that
Upgrade your shields to level 2 to deflect blue bullets.
Fully upgrading your shields will allow you to ‘eat’ the orange critters.
I’m stuck at the same point, it’s not so much hard as practically impossible given that I had no idea I needed to invest that much in the shield.
I’m also stuck at that point do I have to start my game over since it saved? or is there a way to respend my points?
I’m afraid you’ll have to start again
Although it is possible to beat blue ships without using shields.
This, sir, is tension and addiction wrapped up in a perfect package…I look forward to the challenge of getting even CLOSE to finishing. Great job man!
Neat game but I’m rubbish at it! Might have to do some cheating soon
I really like the splitting and mining mechanics for the asteroids. Also, I like how collisions are a central part of game-play. Even the docking is physics based, which is really cool.
With most early enemies and all the asteroids, its really fun to use the shield to bounce your way around asteroids and push enemies away. Too bad you can’t really destroy your enemies by throwing asteroids at them. And unfortunately, enemies later in the game seem to be unmovable, even though asteroids of the same size can be moved with ease.
However, I don’t really like the way new enemies are introduced. When you first meet them, you usually only have a second to realize that everything you learned so far is useless. They can suddenly ignore your shields, their missiles can follow you everywhere, and even though they’re new, they’re rarely alone.
The difficulty is all over the place. Most of the time is very hard, then after you buy an update, its suddenly really easy, only to become monstrously difficult again a minute later. But I think that’s just a matter of playtesting and iteration.
A few things that kept popping up:
- You can’t see how much energy you have when you need it the most, because you have to pay attention to the location of your ship.
- Using lifes is discouraged. Especially earlier in the game, they’re really expensive, and because there is usually a really though enemy right around the corner. So, to save a life when you need it the most it is often best to do the following: [press p, click abandon game, press m to mute the music*, press c to start from the checkpoint].
- The edge of the screen is very dangerous. Enemies and asteroids tend to fly at you at enormous velocities, and since you can’t see them coming, you’re best off in the middle of the screen. Unfortunately, there are a lot of situations where the middle of the screen isn’t available, because of a giant spaceship flying there, or too many bullets flying around. I have died a lot, because of enemies that decided to ambush me from outside the screen, and asteroids that were sent flying out of one side of the screen, entering the screen again in a random location.
* The music is really cool. Unfortunately, every time you die and decide to go back to the menu, its the same 10 seconds you’ve heard the last time you died.
The only bug I encountered was one where some world objects would remain from the previous game state, when quickly quiting to the menu, and pressing continue.
I hope my long comment here is useful to you. Keep it up, this game has some really cool gameplay!
my 2 bits…
i agree with many points mentioned above.
-edge is dangerous
-difficulty is obscure (this is what make this game interesting/fun/addictive)
my suggestions:
-make the upgrades cheaper
-decrease the taxes
wicked game overall!!!
thank u very much and keep up the good work!
Super game great!
Found an interesting bug. Decided to not shoot anything in order to achieve the lazy award. However, after a couple of levels of that (just to see how long I could last without shooting) I was awarded a obsessive compulsive award for 100% shot accuracy – even though it said 0.00% on the awards screen!
That is technically correct… it’s a valid way to get the Obsessive Compulsive award
You also should’ve got the ‘Lazy Jones’ award during that time for provoking the idle employee missile attack.
Blogged it: http://www.rgcd.co.uk/2011/06/super-space-rubbish-pcmaclinux.html
Nicely done! thanks kind sir
Hey I’m really enjoying the game, I got the bundle today.
Does anyone have tips on the first big yellow star wars looking ship? I try to keep it in the middle of the screen and stay close to it so it’s missiles crash into it. But so far I’ve only taken about half its life.
1. Maybe I shouldn’t have perchased multi shot so soon? Not sure if I could earn enough to increase the damage to level 3.
2. Maybe I need to learn that straffing/spin move in the trailer. Upgrade rotation all they way…
Thanks for any suggestions!
I agree with a lot of you that the game is hard. But, I like that it’s so hard. I feel like this game is more about replaying to optimize your upgrades and learn skills, rather then actually getting far quickly.
One thing I would like is the ability to sell back upgrades at loss, but that does take away from the replaying.
I’m working on a list of all the upgrade costs and the enemies in each level. I have the bad habit of buying the same things over and over, so I have to have a spread sheet to plan out how much money to save for the pricier items.
My goal is to get shields to level 2 and damage to level 1 before the blue shooters level.
Finally finished with just under 16 hours. I used Continue a LOT so I didn’t get a very good score. I might have to replay to try out the armor, I never got to buy it.
After reading some the tips here I restarted and used a spreadsheet to plan my purchases just enough that I was able to upgrade damage at the right times. Basically upgrade purity until you can afford damage, then max purity and upgrade shields and damage.
what is the DP 5000 red box???? i lost all my $$$. it happened upon impact
actually it was DR
From the briefing screen:
“In case of passenger emergency a fully comprehensive insurance policy has been provided to a value of three escape vessels. Additional emergencies are chargeable at 5000 credits”.
I never saw the red box? Maybe I just wasn’t carrying around +5000 credits at the right time. Where did you see it?
This game is really nicely put together and very addictive, but just plain stinkin’ TOO HARD for me! I run out of lives by the time I hit the level with the little swarming blue dot guys, and the continue feature is just a cruel joke since you don’t get more lives. Any helpful hints for keeping my overwhelming frustration from swallowing me whole? Perhaps a secret easy mode, or some sort of DIno Run-style cheat codes that prevent you from saving your score or achievements (because honestly, I could care less about my score or achievements, I just want to play the game for 10 minutes without rage-quitting)
- Buy the material attractor immediately
- Use your shields in short, well-timed bursts to stun critters
- Always invest in extraction purity whenever you can afford it
- Fully upgrading your shields will allow you to ‘eat’ yellow critters
I sincerely do appreciate the prompt response, even if it’s basically the same hints from the README file.
first hint: check. (the materials attractor is so crucial that I’m wondering why you made it optional – are there people so good that they dare play without it??)
second: I guess I need to work on my “short well-timed bursts” of shields – do they really work on the little blue guys? I have been trying but might just be too crappy at it.
Third: always? over any other upgrades? because I’m wondering if I am upgrading too soon and should be concentrating on extra levels of propulsion at first.
Fourth: N/A seeing as how I barely last long enough to upgrade my shield even once.
All I can say is keep trying!
Everything is 100% possible in this game, but there might be times when you’re better off starting from scratch and taking a different upgrade path.
If you go back and play ‘classic arcade’ games they were rock hard too
Fair enough. I appreciate your encouragement even though I’m clearly a low-end outlier, skillwise, compared to your target demographic. I’ll start over and see how it goes!
Those arcade games were hard because it was an effective way to make money. For some people that is fun, but I can really agree with Randbot here, this game is just too hard, and it gets in the way of my fun. Yeah, when you have had some more practice, it gets easier and becomes more fun, but only until you get further.
If you’d give the player some more control over difficulty, for example by letting the player choose when to play in a more difficult part of the galaxy, it might not be as frustrating to play.
Starting the whole game over because of poor upgrade choices can be a little frustrating, although it’s good for improving skill. One problem is the relative usefulness of expensive upgrades isn’t very clear until they’re paid for later in the game. Maybe the game could save immediately prior to store purchases rather than immediately after.
The first swarm of red guys is difficult if you don’t have sufficient engine and shield upgrades to outmaneuver them. Right now I’m stuck at Stop Showing Off, because I had no warning that the game’s first accurate enemies can also bypass a partially upgraded shield. The first one I can handle, but the following two are quite difficult with my current ship. I would rank my ship control above average, though not phenomenal. It doesn’t seem to be of much use on this level.
i finally completed!
it took about 27 hrs and many frustrating restarts!
my highest score is 74835 [pilot: disasterman]
hints:
i only saved when i had 3 lives….
shield upgrades are great .
efficiency is a wonderful thing
great game! look forward to more!
13 hours and 23 minutes before killing the annoying crab. It would be fun if I could replay individual stages with the fully upgraded ship.
Yeah that would be a great feature. Some of the a lot of stages were really fun and hectic. It would be nice to go back and kick some extra butt.
Hey, I bought the bundle somewhere around E3, and just I started playing this.
I really started enjoying it after I finally read the readme and bought the Material Attractor
I was just wondering, is the arcade mode something I have to unlock, of is that a demo version exclusive?
nice game! bought the bundle after liking the arcade.
i’m a bit disappointed that the arcade mode is not include in the full game; sometimes i just want to get my 5 minutes of immediate action. i have not yet cleared career mode – does it become available afterwards?
you have obviously tweaked the games mechanics very carefully, so you’ve probably got your reasons to not have done it any other way; but i would really enjoy
)
• an arcade mode and/or
• the ability to choose the starting level for career mode
(i have blissfully ignored thinking about the implications for the upgrade system
in any case, let me reiterate: nice game! great price! thanks for the effort!
Thanks for offering your genuine constructive criticism calmly, without frothing at the mouth
If there is enough demand I might consider releasing an update to address the issues people are having.
Good thing I looked at the comments, I was going to buy the game, and I learn here (it’s not indicated anywhere else) that the arcade mode is not available in the full game.
You’ve taken a feature from the free version out of the full game.
That doesn’t make any sense.
If I buy a game, I want to end up with more game than when playing the demo version, not less !
Sorry if you feel short-changed. Arcade Mode is a modified version of the full game with lots of features taken out, this was intended to provide a quick blast of fun to demonstrate the gameplay of the full version, I didn’t expect people would want to go back to it once they’d got the full game… Obviously I was wrong!
If you want to play the demo again it will always be free to play on slakinov.com, to make this less irritating I have now removed the ads from the demo on this site for quick access.
Does the pay version allow you to change the keys (and is there any chance of adding that feature to the flash/demo version)? I have a weird keyboard, and there’s no way I could play it with the current fixed controls. (Yes, I have this problem a lot. Why do you ask?
I’m afraid not…
Hi…still playing…I’ve started over again three times to find that magical upgrade path to survive, and yet I still say keep it difficult. The only request I might have is an “instant death/restart” button, like B or spacebar. When I lose just one life I start over immediately, and instead of clicking the mouse then hitting c, why not just have one button to do both at once. That’s my two cents. Awesome game anyways…I’m not a hardcore gamer but I’m definitely going at this one with a vengeance. I look forward to future games from you. Good day-
Um! What if i have already bought Dino Run SE? do i lose out now? D:
The bundle without Dino Run is also worth the money.
Considered releasing this game on steam? It makes buying indie games so much less hassle and I don’t really like giving my card details to lots of different sites to buy indie games.
Yes, might give it a try.
Pingback: Dino Run SE e Space Rubbish in bundle - Beavers
Really fantastic game mechanics, I’ve got to admit that. One of the most addictive indie title I’ve played in months. Especially loved the little details, special effects and references spread everywhere, e.g. funny random things you can collect from asteroids.
Would definetely buy that again. Horrily underpriced, even though you can only know that after playing through it.
My opinion about the difficulty:
In general, it’s just the right amount to keep you trying without getting desperate. Due to enemies always spawning from random directions, you don’t lose hope of getting lucky next time.
HOWEVER, some bossfights are rather unbalanced. The first boss was a nightmare (at least 20 tries), while the second was a total joke (one try).
Also, the game is a bit too unforgiving. When I bought the double shot, just to find out my generator was too weak for it, I had to start over again (blue rockets :<). Only one more save slot or the chance to save before buying could've solved this situation, which can easily crush a gamer's motivation.
One thing I never got was the fact that some abilities are pre-upgraded. Is there any method of playing without them?
That's about my (minor) negative points. Despite your nonexistent plans, I'd highly encourage you to make this into a big game one day. I can easily imagine traveling around an overworld, visiting mining sites, looking for secrets…and so on. The game physics and clever update scheme are perfect for that.
Cheers!
Some further comments after playing a while.
Core gameplay and presentation are near perfect.
Difficulty is too high to be entertaining for very long. It’s a combination of things:
Swarms of little blue and red guys are like a roulette wheel early in the game. Especially the blue guys. It’s not enough that they can steal 1000C of minerals in seconds. Without the right upgrades, a single blue guy can lock down your ship completely. If one touches you while a swarm around, it’s a choice between sitting still and dying helplessly, or hitting keys and dying helplessly. Too random.
There’s no predictability with the drone visits, credit and mineral intake, or enemy variety. You have to play through several levels in a row over and over to get a sense of which drones will appear, how much you can earn, and what you should direct it towards. Should you focus on accumulating minerals or on sacrificing minerals to shoot all the little guys for 10C each? The answer takes too many playthroughs.
The save system is set after the drone docks with you. This is fine from a timesaving perspective. However, if you do a trial run of upcoming levels with a test set of upgrades, you have to replay the mission prior to the upgrade drone when you go back. Frustrating, time consuming, and especially bad if the level before the upgrade drone was a tough one.
Rather than toss everything out, you could ease the pain greatly by adding a sandbox mode. Look at the Flash game Amorphous for a good example. If we could practice with any set of upgrades versus any previously encountered enemies, the crippling combination of difficulty factors wouldn’t matter so much, because we’d be able to figure out what works best and plan ahead properly. Or, if sandbox is too much extra work, let us go back and replay every previous level from checkpoints, always with the option to retain or discard the results.
The little blue and red guys could still use a nerf, though. They shouldn’t be able to totally incapacitate a ship by themselves if they’re going to appear in such large numbers early in the game. They shouldn’t be able to leech so many minerals in such a short time.
Replaying from scratch because we made the wrong decisions 6 levels back kills enthusiasm for an otherwise wonderful game.
One other subtle thing I left out. Is there a fraction of a second delay before the shield kicks in? A whole lot of deaths come right after I hit the shield key with no apparent effect on the game. Any lag at all is a major handicap in a fast-moving, one-hit-kill environment.
This being a computer, there could be any number of causes. If the delay is intentional, it’s puzzling.
I ended up making notes on what happens in each stage, so i can plan ahead better. I’m still trying to make it all the way though without reloading from saves. I’d say ‘career mode’ gives the wrong impression: it’s more fun to start from the beginning regularly, and just view the save system as a practice mode that allows you to gain more experience of the later levels.
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
My upgrade strategy is to prioritise extraction purity like the man says – i can usually max it by the end of rubble trouble. It’s well worth it as the final conversion rate is nearly 2 credits per kg. After loathe thy neighbour I buy all but one pip of shield reset threshold as it’s cheap and helps so much with harvesting the leaches. For the same reason i buy generator charge rate and turret efficiency after pan-dimensional liquid beasts. The next priority is getting 2 pips of shield field strength by the end of waltz in e-minor, or the blue shooters will own me. On the wish list are turret damage class which as well as the obvious extracts more materials from the rocks, and the final pip of shield field strength to allow me to dine on orange leaches (20 kg from each, worth nearly 40 credits at max purity – compared to 10 live or 5 stunned).
I buy one pip of rotation power at the first e-drone, one of reverse power at the second, and buy engine efficiency whenever it seems cheap to me to save more energy for guns and shields, but apart from that i prioritise engine upgrades very low – constantly changing ship handling is a distraction and faster rotation reduces accuracy.
When it’s getting hard to hammer the fire key fast enough to drain energy it’s time to buy autofire. Multi-shot upgrade is to be avoided until very late as unlike in the demo it doesn’t increase your rate of destruction, just spreads it out, dividing your rate of fire. 2x is marginally helpful, 3x is not. Damage class is much better value.
Shield energy efficiency is a surprisingly rubbish upgrade – as you should be pulsing your shield anyway it won’t make much difference to you, and it’s no help against homing missiles as each one your shield kills takes all your energy so it’s all about reset threshold and generator charge rate, and spacing out the impacts.

I found an interesting bug as well. Can’t believe I missed it during the beta test.
I’m playing the windows version and can’t activate my shield if going forward while spinning to the right.
Thanks for the report. This bug only affects windows XP, please consider using a more recent operating system! XP is 10 years old
If enough people are interested I will consider making an alternative version with different controls to avoid the problem, please use the contact link to the left and get in touch if you are affected.

Hey where i can buy a windows version?
You can buy the PC version from bandcamp, just click the BUY NOW from bandcamp.com button..
I want buy the game . No the soundtrack even if I buy the game, is there any chance it does not work? my computer is XP.
The game is only available on Bandcamp with the soundtrack included as a free bonus.
Unfortunately I’ve had a report that there is a problem with the game on windows XP, please see the comment above. I’m afraid I can’t guarantee a bug fix for this right now, as Slakinov is not my day job! (I wish it were).
I would recommend running the game from Windows7 or OSX.
Thank you for a truly awesome (and cheap:O) game!
The difficulty level is very high IMO, as it should be in this kind of game. Nowadays people feel frustrated if they have to try a level over 2 times. You know a good game when you fail but keep on trying for 100 times. Career mode therefore is good the way it is (as of the arcade nature of the game I think it wouldn’t be challenging if you could save and load whenever you want), although the life/continue system allows (or forces) you to “cheat”. Some other mode, eg arcade mode similar in the demo, would be cool to practise your skills and get those power-ups faster.
Once again, thank you. Love the game. And also I hate you, because of all the schoolwork I’m missing…

The game is not working…
I downloaded the game from the Mac App Store, and after the “Slakinov” screen, the game freeze in a black screen. I’m using Mac OS X 10.7.3.
(Sorry for my bad english, i’m spanish)
I’m afraid the App Store version of Space Rubbish has not been tested with OSX Lion yet. I will supply you with the non-App Store version instead.
