BUT WAIT! That’s not all, order the DinoRubbish MegaBundle and we’ll throw in the fantastic dinosaur actionfest ‘Dino Run SE’ (plus soundtrack) from Pixeljam for just $5!
Here’s a visual style and colour palette sketch for a possible isometric tunnel shooter. I’ve got Zaxxon in mind as a main influence, I always found that game really compelling but annoying as hell. So I’ll attempt to recreate the former and avoid the latter, and make it prettier.
It’s probably not possible to have this exact look running at a decent framerate in Flash just yet -a proper chromatic aberration effect would be quite ‘expensive’ I’d imagine, but noise and bloom are certainly possible so I reckon I can get pretty close. I’m hoping 2d effects like this will be more attainable via Molehill in future, I’m a complete n00b when it comes to modern GPU stuff though so I could be talking out of my arse.
After nearly 12 months of part-time development, Space Rubbish is now 100% complete and ready for action! Tons of performance tweaks and gameplay improvements have been made since the demo video was released.
The sound effects and music have been polished up, the difficulty curve has been tested, tweaked and balanced, and the enemy A.I. has been fined tuned to just the right level of dastardliness – not easy enough to be boring, and not clever enough to annoy you. We understand there’s nothing more spirit-crushing than enemies with super-human aiming skills. You’ll be pleased to hear there is also a GIANT ENEMY CRAB lurking around waiting to spew forth hundreds of alien parasites in your general direction, lovely.
The game is still in bidding over at FlashGameLicense.com, so if you’re an approved sponsor you can check it out for yourself right now by clicking this link. If you’re here because you just want to play the damn thing, then please help out by spreading the word!
I do love a good vertical shmup, and feel the need to make a decent one at some point. Here’s a sketch from the vaults showing a pixelart heavy vertical shooter with upgradeable weapons inspired by ‘Retrograde‘ on the C64, and equipment management inspired by the classic MS-DOS shooter ‘Tyrian‘. I imagined typical vertical shooter action going on here, but with lots of coin-hoovering and a big emphasis on taking extra risks for insane mega score-combos, much like the absolutely bloody mental and highly addictive Japanese arcade classic ‘Guwange‘.
Coming soon to a browser near you: Space Rubbish. The free-to-play action-packed physics-based shoot em up game you always dreamed about.
What’s that you say? It looks like Asteroids?
Why yes, yes it does young (wo)man. But does Asteroids have intelligent enemies, trading, docking, upgrades, bosses, space vampires, giant crustaceans, brutally realistic physics and a ton of ambient drones and sound effects by Datassette? Nae, it doesnae!
A playable preview is up on FlashGameLicense now (visible only to sponsors unfortunately), so if you’re a site owner and want to make an offer for teh exclusive sponsorshipz then go and have a look. There are still a few tweaks to be done but I’d say it’s about 98% complete now. I’m eager to release it so people can play it, so if you like the look of it, spread the word!
After three years of hyper-procrastination and stalling here is the all-new wood-panelled home of Slakinov! Stay tuned for much more frequent news about upcoming games, thoughts on game development, technical gibberish, prototypes, sketches and other daft ideas.
To get things started, here’s a sketch for a droid-invasion type game:
The droids themselves are ‘inspired’ by the classic Tomy Dingbot, but instead of being 5 inches tall and cute they would be over 9 feet high and exist only to fry all humans to a crisp with their deadly laser eyes! Or possibly you would command a team of droids and get to do the frying yourself. Who knows.
